Concussion Management
Integrated Concussion Management
Duration: 4 hours of online education contact material
The Integrated Concussion Management course will dive into the clinical spectrum of evidence informed concussion care from evaluation through treatment and into return to activity and sport. The literature surrounding concussion treatment has expanded, however, there has been a lack of courses designed to expose the learner to coherent applications of treatment techniques and examination of the whole patient or athlete. This course will review the key features of a fundamental concussion evaluation, discussing treatment based classification systems versus phenotypical treatment approaches, and will provide tangible techniques, including vestibular, oculomotor, and orthopedic techniques to bring into the clinic. Exposure to the basics of vestibular and orthopedic concepts is encouraged for this course. This course is not recommended for patients.
The goal of this course will be to review the management of concussions from examination through return to prior level; students are encouraged to utilize a variety of treatment techniques to maximize recovery that include vestibular, oculomotor, cardiovascular and orthopedic skills. Expected outcomes include the students feeling confident and competent in identifying and treating all concussion domains.
Enrollment: 90 Days of Access
Presentation Objectives
Participants will be able to:
Complete an efficient evaluation plan using recent research on special tests to assess impaired concussion domains
Differentiate between vestibular, oculomotor, physiological, and cervical concussion domains by using subjective insight and specific special testing
Identify a comprehensive plan of care utilizing progressions for concussion phenotypes that appropriately advances patient through return to school, work, activity, and sport
Analyze patient progressions throughout the plan of care and readiness for return to activity and sport
Course Outline:
Introduction
